ʺFor adults onlyʺ: Young people targeted by the tobacco industry
Despite claiming otherwise, the tobacco industry continues to relentlessly target young people. Its marketing strategies, which are both subtle and highly effective, focus on early initiation to ensure consumer loyalty into adulthood. Today, these strategies have adapted to new areas of influence, particularly social media.
This multi-part series analyzes the evolution of the tobacco industry’s advertising tactics, the mechanisms it uses, and the reasons why young people are a particularly vulnerable target. It also highlights the importance of taking a critical look at these practices in order to strengthen prevention and protect future generations.
